Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said discussions will be held on the political situations in the six districts of Negros Occidental in August and the announcement of candidates for the May 2025 polls will be made in September.
“By August we will sit down already, we will start with the six congressmen, and discuss the different situations per district and by September we will be announcing our lineup per district”, Lacson said on Wednesday, June 26.
Lacson is a member of Love Negros that is in coalition with the United Negros Alliance (UNegA).
In the 1st District of Negros Occidental former Rep. Jules Ledesma has manifested his wiliness to unite with the Jaojocos of Toboso, Lacson said.
In the past candidates have been fielded against the Jaojocos.
Madonnah Jaojoco is the current mayor of Toboso. Her husband Councilor Richard Jaojoco was the previous mayor of the town.
The councilor posted a picture of himself with Rep. Gerardo Valmayor (Neg. Occ., 1st District) with the caption: “Solid First! Let’s continue to progress in Toboso!” on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
Lacson also reiterated that Love Negros and UNegA will listen to the mayors of the 5th District on their choice for representative.
Rep. Emilio Yulo III of the 5th District does not belong to their coalition.
Dina Arroyo-Tantoco, niece of former president Gloria Arroyo, is rumored to be planning to run for representative of the 5th District.*
