
Two people were killed when an ambulance driven by a barangay captain crashed into a streetlight post during heavy rain in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.
The vehicle, driven by Barangay Captain Stephen Peñonial, 48, of Brgy. Sebucawan, Isabela, was en route to Bacolod City when the accident occurred along the national road in Brgy. Recreo.
Police reports indicate that Peñonial lost control of the vehicle after stepping on the brakes to avoid hitting a tricycle.
The ambulance swerved sharply before colliding with a concrete solar streetlight post.
A 70-year-old patient who has suffering from hypertension, identified only as Dalia, and a 30-year-old ambulance crew member named Peter were rushed to the hospital, where they were both declared dead.
The driver and another passenger, 50-year-old Maria, who is a relative of the patient, were injured. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.*
