An alleged New People’s Army member was killed in an encounter between the rebels and government soldiers in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, on Friday, Jan. 10.
The encounter between the remnants of the NPA Southwest Front and members of the 15th Infantry Battalion took place at about 7 a.m., Lt. J-jay Javines, the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, said.
The encounter resulted in the death of a suspected NPA member and the recovery of a high-powered firearm, he said.
The army is still conducting a pursuit operation against the rebels and determining the identity of the person who died in the encounter, Javines said.*
