Alert level de-escalation after June vax drive seen

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson expects a de-escalation of the alert level status of more areas in Negros Occidental after the mass vaccination drives set by the provincial government in June.

An improved vaccination status will be needed for the provincial government to request the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to deescalate Negros Occidental to Alert Level 1, Lacson said on Sunday, May 29.

Only seven LGUs in Negros Occidental – La Carlota, Victorias and Sagay cities and the municipalities of EB Magalona, San Enrique, Candoni and Pulupandan are currently under Alert Level 1 while the rest are under Alert Level 2 until June 15.

Lacson said he has received no notice of more Negros Occidental LGUs to be placed under Alert Level 1 for now.

Provincewide simultaneous mass vaccination drives will be held on Thursdays and Fridays during the first three weeks of June and on Monday and Tuesday on the fourth week, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said earlier.

Negros Occidental has fully vaccinated 63.15 percent of its target population and 58.95 percent of its target senior citizens, the Department of Health 6, reported on Thursday, May 26.

Tumimbang said they are aiming to hit 100 percent of the province’s target population.

Meanwhile, Lacson said except for 19 new COVID-19 cases reported on June 25, the daily number has since dropped to 1 to 3 new cases a day.

There were 35 active COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 28.*
