Deputy House Speaker and Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez will launch a pioneering Biodiesel Project to support local fisherfolk at the Community Center of Las Palmas Subdivision in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30.
“As fuel prices continue to rise, we need practical solutions that can help ease costs at the community level,” Benitez said.
This will provide a more affordable fuel option for equipment such as pumpboats and generators, he said.
The project is also a major step toward sustainable energy and community-driven environmental solutions, as it aims to transform waste into a direct resource for the city’s coastal residents, Benitez said in a press statement.
“By supporting our fisherfolk with sustainable fuel alternatives, we are not only protecting the environment but also strengthening livelihoods”, he said.
Under the theme “Collect, Recycle and Renew,” the project promotes the conversion of used cooking oil and other renewable resources into an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
During the launch, biofuel products will be distributed to local fisherfolk to provide a more affordable and sustainable option for their daily operations, helping to ease rising fuel costs while encouraging cleaner energy practices, Benitez said.
Beyond immediate fuel distribution, the project encourages households, businesses, and the wider community to actively participate in collecting and recycling used oil, he added.
This collaborative effort, supported by various partners and stakeholders, is expected to reduce pollution, improve urban waste management, and foster a more resilient, green economy for Bacolod, Benitez said.*
