A young boy sustained an eye injury following a firecracker accident in Hacienda Alacaygan, EB Magalona in Negros Occidental on Sunday morning, December 28.
The victim, an 8-year-old male resident of Barangay Alacaygan, was reportedly playing with firecrackers when the blast sent a pebble flying, which struck the child directly in his right eye, the police reported.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Kaayong Lawas Emergency Room in Victorias City for initial treatment. Due to the nature of the injury, he was later referred to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.
After receiving the necessary medical attention and medication, the minor was cleared by doctors and allowed to return home.
With the New Year celebrations approaching, local officials are urging parents to strictly supervise their children and avoid the use of illegal or dangerous firecrackers to prevent similar accidents.*
