The Association of Negros Producers, Inc. (ANP) participated in the community outreach program conducted by the 79th Infantry Battalion in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, August 9.
The comprehensive initiative successfully brought essential public services and long-term environmental advocacy directly to the residents of Barangay Hilub-ang in Calatrava.
The collaborative event was made possible through the strong support of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Calatrava, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Felix G. Yusay Foundation, Inc. Spag-ASA, the Association of Negros Producers, Inc. and various dedicated partner-stakeholders, a press release said.
The event drew about a thousand participants from the community who availed themselves of a wide array of vital health, welfare, and educational services. The 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion, headed by its commanding officer Lt. Col. Eric Alfonso received commendations for orchestrating the multi-sectoral mobilization.
More than a thousand eesidents benefited from the following free services and distributions during the outreach:
- Medical Consultations: Free health check-ups administered by the Department of Health Negros Island Region (DOH NIR) alongside volunteer doctors from the Felix G. Yusay Foundation Inc.
- Health and Nutrition Support: A hot feeding program by Spag-ASA and the distribution of vitamins tailored for children.
- Basic Relief Goods: Free distributions of essential food packs and hygiene kits by LGU and ANP.
- Personal Care and Community Services: Free ear piercing and interactive parlor games for families.
- Disaster Preparedness: A vital educational orientation on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).
Alongside the immediate humanitarian assistance, organizers emphasized sustainability by integrating a progressive Tree Planting Activity into the day’s itinerary. Organizers noted that putting a seedling into the earth takes only a few minutes, but the true mission begins afterward.
The initiative underscored that the community’s ultimate responsibility is to nurture, protect, and ensure these trees grow into a lasting forest.The joint effort serves as a direct investment in a safer, greener, and more sustainable future, ensuring that the next generations will harvest the peace, progress, and shade of the seeds sowed, today, the press release said.
