5 fishermen apprehended in Binalbagan for illegal fishing

Five fishermen were apprehended in separate seaborne patrol operations for  alleged illegal fishing in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Friday afternoon, June 5.

Police said the operations were conducted by Bantay Dagat personnel and the Bantay Dagat Task Force in the coastal area of Brgy. Canmoros.

In the first operation at around 2:30 p.m., authorities apprehended alias “Johny,” 39, a fisherman from Brgy. 2, Hinigaran, who was the boat captain of F/B “Crizel.”

He was allegedly caught violating Section 34, or the prohibition of commercial trawl, under Municipal Ordinance No. 12-02, series of 2012.

Recovered from his possession were one fishing net valued at P20,000 and one trawling board valued at P5,000.

In another operation at around 3:30 p.m., authorities apprehended four fishermen from Brgy. Sara-et, Himamaylan City.

They were identified as alias “Rommel,” 38, alias “Rodman,” 29, alias “Ariel,” 45, and alias “Francisco,” 38.

Police said they were boat captains of F/B “Jam” and F/B “Shi” and were also allegedly caught violating the same ordinance against commercial trawls.

Recovered from them were four fishing nets valued at P80,000 and four trawling boards valued at P20,000.

Police said the violation carries a corresponding fine of P2,500 per individual.

The recovered fishing equipment is under the custody of the Binalbagan Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.*
