
Five alleged members of the New People’s Army were killed in an armed encounter with the 15th Infantry Battalion in Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 16.
The encounter happened at the tri-boundary of Brgy. Abaca, Brgy. Man-uling, and Brgy. Poblacion at around 5 a.m., police said.
The Cauayan Municipal Police Station said it received a report from the 15IB that government troops encountered around 10 armed individuals in the area.
The armed encounter and pursuit operation reportedly lasted until about 5 p.m., while clearing operations continued.
No casualties or injuries were reported on the government side.
Authorities said recovered from the encounter site were an M14 rifle, an M60 machine gun, four M16 rifles, an M203 grenade launcher, a grenade, and four backpacks with personal belongings.
The 302nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army said the encounter involved troops of the 15IB and remnants of the South-West Front, Komiteng-Rehiyon Negros.
