3 arrested for illegal fishing

Three fishermen were apprehended for alleged illegal fishing in Hinigaran and Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Friday, September 15, the police reported.

Jumbo Cabulacan Coros, 20, from Sitio Quincihan, Brgy. 2, Hinigaran town, was apprehended off the coast of Hinigaran, Friday afternoon.

The Task Force Bantay Dagat and Hinigaran police confiscated a fishing net, wooden board valued at P8,000, and fish catch worth P1,600 from him, the police reported.

The confiscated paraphernalia were placed under the custody of the Hinigaran Agriculture’s Office and Cabulacan will be fined P3,000.

Micheal Coros Bernaldez, 32, from Brgy. 2, Hinigaran, was also apprehended.

The police confiscated from him a fishing net, wooden board worth P9,000, and fish catch worth P2,400.

He will be fined P5,000 for violation of the municipal ordinance on illegal fishing, the police said.

In a separate operation, Ramel Luntaya, 37, of Brgy. Tagda, Hinigaran, was apprehended by the seaborne patrol team of Binalbagan off the coast of the town.

The Bantay Dagat Task Force and Binalbagan police recovered a fishing net and two trawling boards worth P22,500 from him, the police said.

Luntaya is currently under the custody of the Binalbagan police.*
