At least 28 individuals have been brutally murdered across Negros Island since March 2025 in a violent campaign perpetrated by remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division reported on Friday, Feb. 13.
The most recent victim was a 74-year-old woman who was shot to death outside her residence in in Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on February 3, the report said.
“The victims of these killings are not combatants. They are ordinary citizens, including farmers, peasants, and elders, whose only crime was choosing peace over violence,” the Army said.
“Every life taken by the CTG leaves behind grieving families and traumatized communities, deepening fear while exposing the emptiness of the group’s revolutionary tactics,” it added.
Data gathered by security forces show that an average of two people have been killed each month, the Army said.
“This continuous violence unmasks the CTG’s propaganda. While they claim to fight for social justice, their actions reveal a group desperate to maintain relevance through bloodshed,” it added.
The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division said it strongly condemns these cowardly acts and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protect the people, uphold the rule of law, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We urge the Commission on Human Rights and all human rights advocates to look into these crimes, investigate thoroughly, and help the victims achieve rightful justice. The perpetrators must be held accountable and brought to justice,” it said.
“These killings are not isolated incidents but a systematic attack on the dignity and safety of ordinary citizens,” the 3rd ID said.*
