20-year-old Bacolod resident drowns in Talisay river

A 20-year-old man from Bacolod City lost his life on Monday afternoon, Dec. 29,  after drowning during a swimming excursion with friends at Hacienda Santol, Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City.

The victim, a resident of Purok Santo Domingo, Barangay Banago, was declared dead at the Talisay City Health Office following a retrieval operation by local authorities.

The police said the victim was at a river at Hacienda Santol when he stepped on a rock, lost his footing, and slipped into a deep section of the water.

The victim did not know how to swim and immediately began to struggle, calling for help, the police report said.

A companion attempted to rescue the victim, but the young man submerged and disappeared beneath the surface before help could reach him.

Following a report from a concerned citizen  an alert team from the Talisay police  was dispatched to the scene.

A coordinated retrieval operation was launched with the  Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)  eventually recovered the victim’s body from the river.*
