Two motorized bancas were intercepted and their operators were arrested for illegal fishing during a seaborne patrol of the Maritime Police in the municipal waters of Bacolod City on Thursday, Dec. 11.
The police said the vessels were caught engaging in unauthorized fishing in violation of Republic Act 10654, which penalizes illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities.
Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb destructive practices and ensure the sustainable use of marine resources.
The Maritime Police added that strict enforcement of fisheries laws is necessary to protect ecosystems and secure long-term livelihood for coastal communities.
Charges will be filed against those responsible, the police said.*
