Two minors from Iloilo whose disappearance had gone viral on social media were rescued and returned home on Saturday, Feb. 7, the head of the Bacolod City Mendicancy Management Division said on Sunday.
The 12-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend from Dueñas, Iloilo, took the ferry to Bacolod on Jan. 29 with two friends and proceeded to Bais City in Negros Oriental, Social Worker Anjanette Servano, Bacolod Mendicancy Management Division program coordinator, said.
The two lived on the streets for more than a week in Bais City and Kabankalan City before returning to the BREDCO Port area in Bacolod City.
A concerned citizen spotted them at a convenience store at the port and informed the Philippine Coast Guard who then placed them in the custody of the Bacolod Department of Social Services and Development Friday night.
They underwent medical checkups and given temporary shelter until the girl was picked up by her parents and the boy was turned over to a Dueñas social worker, Servano said.*
