15-year-old boy killed in front of gov’t center

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death near the flagpole in front of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC)  at about 7:30 p.m.  Sunday, May 29, by a member of an alleged rival group.

Stabbed in the back was Yeshua John Alvarez Torres   of Purok 4, Barangay 41, Bacolod City, who was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, PLt. Greeky Cayao, Police Station 4 OIC, said Monday.

The suspect was identified as Jorebel Solatorio Datulayta, alias Nonoy, 21, of Purok Pag-asa, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.

The victim  and  his 14-year-old friend were walking in front of the BCGC when the suspect chased and stabbed him, and walked away, the police said.

Cayao said their initial investigation showed that the stabbing was triggered by an old grudge between the rival groups of the suspect and the victim.

The suspect in a group chat found in his phone sent a message that read: “Where are you, we already stabbed one of them”, Cayao said.

The victim asked permission to go to the BCGC to eat ice cream, his mother, Mercy, said.

The police will file murder charges against the suspect.

A driver of a jeepney parked at the BCGC area also filed a complaint against the angry friends of the victim who smashed the windshield and lights of his vehicle.

They apparently had mistaken his jeepney as the vehicle that Datulayta has rode on, Cayao said.

The driver parked the vehicle at the BCGC area while and his family went for dinner, Cayao added.

Datulayta, who is detained at Police Station 4, will face murder charges, he said.

Additional policemen will also  be deployed in front of the BCGC to beef up security, Cayao said.
