Twelve people were reported injured after a  van and a tricycle collided in Brgy. Maquiling, Sagay City on Friday morning, July 17.

The tricycle driver, identified as Rey Villarosa, 48, reportedly sustained a leg injury and was taken to a private hospital in Sagay.

The van driver, identified as Panoy Estrella of Toboso, later surrendered to the Sagay police for investigation.

The Sagay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said its responders transported 10 patients to the hospital, most of whom sustained minor injuries and complained of chest pain.

Among those injured were a minor, several senior citizens and a 39-year-old pregnant woman,  the CDRRMO reported.

Meanwhile, the Sagay Component City Police Station recorded 12 individuals who were brought to hospitals, while some of the van’s passengers reportedly declined hospitalization.

Reports said the van and tricycle were traveling in the same direction from Brgy. Dian-ay toward central Sagay when the collision occurred.

The tricycle was reportedly about to turn toward a garage when the van attempted to overtake and hit it.

The van then overturned three times before coming to rest on the roadside, with one female passenger thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Residents immediately helped rescue passengers trapped inside the van before emergency responders transported the injured to hospitals.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.*
