11 search warrants enforced to curb loose firearms in NIR

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) reported that it implemented 11 search warrants against loose firearms across the region in September as part of its intensified anti-criminality campaign.

Of the 11 warrants, eight were carried out by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and three by the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

All led to the filing of cases for violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The operations resulted in several arrests and the recovery of revolvers, pistols, shotguns, ammunition, and in some cases illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

The police also said that two suspects remain at large.

BGen. Arnold Thomas C. Ibay, regional director of PRO-NIR, lauded the police units for their accomplishments and urged gun holders to comply with the law by securing permits and licenses, and encouraged the public to support voluntary surrender initiatives such as Oplan Katok.

“Responsible firearm ownership is key to keeping our communities safe. We will remain relentless in bringing offenders to justice and ensuring that shooting incidents are prevented,” Ibay said.*
