There are 11 towns and cities in the Negros Island Region now classified as pink zones, the National African Swine Fever (ASF) Prevention and Control Program of the Department of Agriculture reported.
Sagay City is the only local government unit (LGU) in the NIR that is in the yellow zone, it added
The local government units classified as pink zones are Kabankalan City, Hinigaran, La Castellana, Pulupandan, San Carlos City, Silay City, Victorias City, and Valladolid in Negros Occidental, and Ayungon, Bais City, and Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental.
The Department of Agriculture said that Pink zones are near infected areas or are ASF-free areas in infected provinces, yellow zones are deemed high risk areas, light green zones have no cases but are near yellow zones, and dark green zones are ASF free.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana said that Escalante City is still on process to be reclassified as a pink zone.
She also said that Negros Occidental does not follow the ASF zoning of the DA as they allow farmers to do their sentineling if they comply with the biosecurity measures set by the PVO.
If they comply with the biosecurity level 1 requirements, they can sentinel, restock, and repopulate their pigs, she said.*
