Eleven minors sustained fireworks-related injuries in the Negros Island Region from December 21 to December 26, the Department of Health NIR reported on Thursday.
Negros Occidental had seven cases, Bacolod City – two and Negros Oriental and Siquijor – one case each.
Eight sustained blast/burns without amputation and three sustained eye injuries.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson reiterated his call for residents to usher in the New Year safely.
The DOH NIR is urging the public to use alternative noise sources such as drums, pots, or karaokes, and watch their local government’s community fireworks display instead.
“Let us be extra careful, and prepare healthy and safe food for our families over the holidays,” Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan, Negros Occidental provincial health officer, also said.*
