₱14M electric vehicle fleet for Bacolod police arrives

The Bacolod City government is intensifying its local peace and order campaign with the deployment of 10 newly acquired electric vehicles (EVs) aimed at modernizing the Bacolod City Police Office.

Mayor Greg Gasataya tested the new units at the Bacolod City Government Center on Thursday, April 23, which are set to be turned over to the police.

The ₱14 million initiative is designed to enhance police visibility and operational efficiency while promoting environmentally responsible governance through the reduction of carbon emissions and fossil fuel dependence, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) said.

Gasataya emphasized that the project aims to strengthen public safety while supporting law enforcement personnel in their mission to protect both the community and the environment.

Each EV unit delivers 201 horsepower and features a maximum driving range of up to 490 kilometers. Powered by a 63.2 kWh battery, the vehicles can reach a full charge within five to seven hours, providing enough energy to sustain an entire day of patrol operations, the BCCO said.

The fleet is equipped with advanced safety and functional features, including 360-degree cameras, proximity sensors, keyless entry, and front and side curtain airbags. To ensure field reliability, the vehicles are compatible with both AC and DC charging.

The Bacolod City Council has formally backed the transition through a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, citing the move as a strategic shift toward cleaner and more energy-efficient public service.

This modernization effort builds on previous administrative support for the local police force, which includes the prior turnover of two SWAT vans and 40,800 rounds of training ammunition.

Additional resources provided to the department include new computer units for administrative tasks, the installation of an LED wall for high-visibility operations, and an increase in monthly personnel allowances to ₱2,000,. the BCCO said. Once fully integrated, the EV fleet is expected to significantly reduce fuel and maintenance costs while ensuring faster response times to community needs, it said.*
